The Road

I recently finished reading a book by Cormac McCarthy, the very author who wrote All the Pretty Horses and No Country for Old Men. Both of these books were made into movies, and now his newest novel, The Road, will be in theaters sometime in 2009. Delay, after delay, the release date for this movie is yet unknown. I am anxiously waiting to see Viggo Mortenson play the heroic character, the man. The more I think about The Road, the more I like the concepts- the hope for something good in humanitity, carrying the light inside yourself. There will be one huge disappointment in the movie if it ends differently from the book. I will have zero faith in Hollywood if the ending is altered. I don't want to give away anything important, but let's just say that if God is left out of this movie, the books intent will be lost to the millions of people who see it in theaters.

There is something inside of each us, a spark of beauty, love, forgiveness. We must make a choice to fuel the flame. We must decide for ourselves that we want to cultivate these treasures. As humans, we have the opportunity to let our light shine through our entire being in matters of action, speech, and even when we are stationary.

There is something tragic in our world today. People think that we can make ourselves love and forgive with no help from anything else. People put faith in themselves, relying solely on their own wisdom and concept of what love and forgive actually are. What people fail to realize is that we need help with this spark that was placed inside of us. We need the creator of the spark to make the light shine brightly. We need God and his son Jesus Christ to help us understand the real meaning of love, beauty, and forgiveness.

The world is filled with people who do great deeds for others. They send money to starving people groups, they travel to the ends of the earth to give much needed medical care to those who have none. But for some, there is one thing missing. The one thing that could make all the difference in matters of eternity. This is the greates choice we have must make on earth and it's the hardest for some.

Humans hate the idea that we can't do something on our own. It makes them feel weak, not in control and helpless. If you put your hope and faith in Christ Jesus, you will find that you are stronger than ever. You will see that there is nothing that can harm you when you have God on your side. This is our greatest treasure, our bright light inside of us.
